Manchester United are the biggest club in England and one of the biggest clubs in the world. From having great managers like Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson to producing some of the globe’s most famous players like Eric Cantona, David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, and Cristiano Ronaldo to name a few. Manchester United has experienced some tantalizing football history moments so here are my 10 Manchester United facts that I have put together to give you an insight into some things you may not know.

Fact 1 – Busby Babes

In 1956 and 1957 Sir Matt busby led Manchester United to win back-to-back league titles. You may have heard of “the Busby Babes” who got their name for being a young team with an average age of 22.

Sadly, in 1958 seven members of this team died in a plane crash take-off, known as the Munich air disaster.

Fact 2 – Supporters

Manchester United are the 3rd most followed club in the world. They only fall short to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona according to pickvisa.com. This could explain why the red devil’s stadium capacity holds 76,000 compared to Barcelona’s Nou Camp capacity 99,354 and Real Madrid’s Barnabeu at 81,044

Fact 3 – 3 goal deficit

During the 2019-2020 season, Manchester United became the first Premier League team to win four league games by a 3 goal margin.

  • Brighton 0 – Man Utd 3
  • Man Utd 5 – Bournemouth 2
  • Aston Villa 0 – Man Utd 3

Fact 4 – Ferguson nearly sacked!

During Sir Alex Ferguson’s early days as a Manchester United manager, he was nearly sacked after a loss to Norwich. A defeat against Nottingham Forrest would have seen him out the door. Ferguson won that game and carried on to become the club’s most successful manager.

Fact 5 – Nicknames

Manchester United is also known as:

  • Man United
  • Man Utd
  • The Red Devils
  • United

Fact 6 – Glazers

The Glazers purchased Manchester United in 2005 for $800 million. The majority of the fan base feels the club should have never been sold as Man Utd have always generated their own revenue. Old Trafford has seen some good moments under the Glazers but a lot has been a disappointment, increased debts, and huge revenues which have not gone down well with most of the fans.

Fact 7 – Rival Stadiums

Old Trafford is only a 15-minute drive away from Manchester City’s Etihad stadium. Safe to say, when these two play each other the city becomes completely hectic! (outside rivals include Liverpool, Leeds United & Arsenal)

Fact 8 – 3rd and above

Sir Alex Ferguson had 21 seasons in the Premier League, in those 21 seasons he never finished below 3rd position. Let me put this into context. Since Sir Alex has retired, 7 years ago, United will have finished outside the top three, six times.

Fact 9 – Class of 92

The class of 92 who was made up of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Gary & Phil Neville the group achieve a combined of 120 trophies during their Manchester United careers including the famous treble.

Fact 10 – 3 in 1 bonus

I’m feeling generous so I’m going to give you three Manchester United facts in one. So here goes:

  • Manchester United have the most goals, wins and clean sheets overall in the English Premier League.
  • First Premier League club to score 1000 goals at their home stadium.
  • First English team to win the European Cup
